Last week, American football offered Michael Clayton, becoming the first Power Four offer for the Georgia athlete.
Clayton is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound athlete who plays wide receiver and cornerback at Northside High School (Warner Robins, Georgia). The offer of Rutgers joined the class of 2025 on the defensive side of the ball.
Last season, Clayton had 35 total tackles and five passes defended in 10 games played.
Rutgers’ offer is largely due to Clayton’s Awesome Measurables. He runs a time of 4.47 in the 40 meters and 10.81 in the 100 meters. He has a 31-inch vertical and a 405-pound squat.
Clayton said head coach Greg Schiano and cornerbacks coach Marcos Orphey I was on the call last week where it was offered by Rutgers.
“It was a big moment,” Clayton told Rutgers Wire.
“I was on the phone with the corners coach and the head coach, they explained the program and what they did to me and then they offered me.
“I feel like they have a great culture, from the information I gathered it seems like they are big on unity, all with a common goal and working together to achieve it. And I feel like the coaches they have are also very focused on player development.”
Clayton will make an official visit to Central Michigan the weekend of June 15. Next week, he will visit the state of Georgia.
The last weekend in May, he will be at Rutgers, making the Scarlet Knights the first program to host Clayton on an official visit.
In terms of what he looks for in a school and a program, Clayton outlined his priorities.
“Just a school with a program that can develop me as an athlete and teach me valuable lessons as I progress in life,” Clayton said.
“And a team where I can have the biggest impact and become the best player I can be.”
Clayton is aiming for a late July commitment date.
