You might be wondering why USC will have to throw another pitch at 8 p.m. local time in Los Angeles. You are not alone. The Trojans aren’t just playing a late game; it’s another 8pm start instead of 7:30pm. Why 8 and not 7:30 for the September 7 game against Utah State?
We know USC-Rutgers will be an 8pm local time game in Los Angeles on October 25th because it follows Game 1 of the World Series on Fox Sports. Why the late start against Utah State in early September?
Adam Bradford, who covers USC for the Sporting Tribune, points out that the Big Ten Network – which is broadcasting the USC game – will have a quadruple matchup on September 7th.
Penn State plays at noon Eastern on BTN on September 7th. That game is followed by Michigan State-Maryland in the 3:30 Eastern, 12:30 Pacific window. Next comes the Ohio State game at 7:30 a.m. Eastern time, followed by USC and Utah State at 11 a.m.
TV networks shelled out big bucks for Big Ten media rights. They will get their money’s worth and a legitimate return on their investment. The Big Ten Network, which has never had the chance to air late-night games, is loving the ability to add an extra football game to its schedule on most — if not all — Saturdays of each season.
For those wondering why USC’s home opener starts so late, it’s because it will be part of a Big Ten Network quadruple matchup that day.
Noon ET: Bowling Green at Penn State
3:30 ET: Michigan State at Maryland
7:30 a.m. ET: Western Michigan at Ohio State
11 ET: Utah State at USC https://t.co/cL5pkWj8js
