Most fans know that many of college football’s best rivalry games reside in the Southeastern Conference – especially with the addition of the Texas Longhorns It is Oklahoma earlier this upcoming season.
However, the question of which rivalry game rules them all was one of the topics of discussion in the See you Saturday podcast by Atlético. Manny Navarro has put together a column consisting of his colleagues Ari Wasserman and Max Olson’s opinions regarding the top rivalry matchup in the SEC.
“(The Red River Rivalry is) the best,” Olson begins. “We talk about it whenever it comes up. That Cotton Bowl experience split 50-50 crimson and burnt orange, fans outside before halftime and after 300,000 at the state fair, is an unbelievable experience.
“But I haven’t been to the others either. Ari, did you go to Georgia-Florida last year. Tell me how impressive this experience was.”
“Very impressive,” Wasserman responded. “This was the first time I participated and Georgia was a 17-point favorite. So I’m not going to pretend this was the best it had to offer. What I don’t love about this is the neutral venue, NFL stadium situation. I think there are two discussions we need to have.”
But then Wasserman turned the question around.
“First, what is the best show? And what is the most intense rivalry? I don’t necessarily think they’re the same thing.”
Navarro then gave his personal opinion.
“I’ve been to Georgia-Florida in Jacksonville a few times, and while it’s a fun and relatively competitive rivalry (the Bulldogs lead 56-44-2 all-time), Red River is a better, more intense spectacle. series lately, often deciding the best team in the Big 12.
“But most would say the Iron Bowl is still the best rivalry in the SEC, and I agree with them. Until proven otherwise.”
