Houston remains strong on the recruiting trail.
The Cougars are keeping another close to home in three-star Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair tight end Wyatt Herbel promised Houston on Monday afternoon.
Herbel made the decision after an official visit over the weekend to Houston.
“I was able to experience more of Houston’s culture this weekend. I feel like one of the big reasons that made me think I should definitely go here was the new coaching staff. (Willie) Fritz has been traveling a little bit and been in different programs and brought them in from the beginning and I feel like he’s going to do something great in Houston. I’m just trying to be a part of it.”
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder saw his recruitment blossom this spring, receiving double-digit offers. Houston offered May 1st and was able to create a connection almost instantly.
“I love the coach (Kevin) Barbaytrainer (Henry) Stone, all of them. They’re great guys. and also another big part that made me commit is the factor of being close to home. I wanted to stay close to home and I think Houston was the perfect choice because it’s so close to home.”
Barbay and the rest of the offensive staff have a vision for Herbel and his use in Houston’s offense.
“I’m more of a receiving tight end. They see me more as the guy that moves, putting me on the wing, putting me in the slot and putting me on the wing. They’ll make me run routes, but I can still put my hand in the dirt. , I can pull, I can do all of that. So coach Barbay was saying they were going to use a lot of 12 players and he was going to use me a lot in that.
