USC’s Marcelles Williams named 2024’s Most Impactful Freshman

Ahead of the 2024 college football season, all kinds of top 25 and top 100 lists are being published. If you are wondering how many USC Trojans are seen as top 100 freshmen heading into the new season, one of them managed to crack the list on 247Sports. Marcelles Williams received recognition as a USC pup who could make an immediate impact:

“Even with the change of USC’s top three snap-takers from last season, there is more depth in USC’s cornerback room than there has been in recent years. But we still hope Williams gets some playing time. He showed up big this spring, including throwing an impressive leaping interception in the spring game.

There is a lot of natural skepticism regarding USC’s defense given how bad it has been the last two years under Alex Grinch. However, Lincoln Riley completely overhauled the coaching staff and installed defensive assistants with more X-and-O skills and generally better football coaching credentials. Marcelles Williams will benefit from this improved training. If he makes a big impact on USC’s defense this season, the Trojans are likely to exceed expectations and make the College Football Playoff.
