Kaj Sanders took a leap of faith when she committed to American football Last July. Now, the former blue-chip recruit is the face of what could very well be a Rutgers resurgence.
In short, the impact Rutgers getting Sanders in the last recruiting cycle is something that still resonates in the state.
Not only was Sanders a four-star recruit, he starred at the state’s top program in Bergen Catholic (Oradell, New Jersey). Last summer he chose Rutgers from four finalists that also included North CarolineSouth Carolina and Wisconsin.

His class turned out to be very solid, with several top recruits joining Sanders and committing to Rutgers. But it is this current class, ranked in the top 10 in the country, that is poised to be Sanders’ legacy.
In fact, through his commitment, Sanders left Rutgers cool and, in doing so, paved the way for the next class to seriously consider staying in state. Because of his high skill set and athleticism, Sanders became a pied piper not only in his class but also in the next class.
It’s no exaggeration to say that without Sanders’ commitment to Rutgers, this monster class pulled by coach Greg Schiano may not be happening. Sanders set the tone for a group that now includes seven players rated as four-star recruits.
The latest came on Saturday, when running back John Forster, a four-star from St. Joseph’s (Montvale, New Jersey), committed to Rutgers. Forster is one of the top five recruits in the state.
