Rutgers Football Announces Date for Annual Blackout Game

The return of college football means the return of theme nights at SHI Stadium. This week, American football announced that the blackout game will be held on September 27th when Washington takes a trip to Piscataway. The game, presented by Horizon, airs on FOX at 8 p.m.

As all eyes in college football will be on Rutgers, fans are encouraged to wear black and arrive early to see the pregame lights and fireworks show. For the first time during the 2024 campaign, Rutgers players will wear black uniforms and helmets. A Rutgers Blackout t-shirt will also be given to fans upon entering the stadium.

Additionally, pregame festivities will include some of the state’s top food trucks and live entertainment. Giveaways will include “Beat Washington” buttons and shakers. Football letter winners and the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will be honored during the game.

Entering this matchup, Rutgers will be looking for its first win against Washington in school history. The Scarlet Knights are 0-2 against the Huskies all-time. These two programs last faced each other in 2017.

Although these programs have faced each other, this will be the first meeting between the two schools in the Big Ten. Last season, Washington was in the Pac-12.

The only other themed game that has been announced is ‘Community Game‘ which will be held on September 7th when Akron visits SHI Stadium.
