The 2024 season will be here before we know it and anticipation and excitement continue to build in Tuscaloosa as a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide Football will start with Kalen DeBoer at the helm.
Some questioned DeBoer and the Tide this offseason and wondered if Alabama could maintain the level of success it had for 17 seasons under the legendary Nick Saban.
One thing that has not been questioned is the leadership of this team. That includes and is perhaps headlined by two defensive veterans who recently made a preseason watch list.
On Thursday, the linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive backs Malaquias Moore were appointed to 2024 Lott Impact Trophy Watchlist.
Lawson is entering his redshirt junior season with the Tide and was a semifinalist for the 2023 Butkus Award as Alabama’s second-leading defensive back despite missing three games. Lawson finished 2023 with 67 tackles. 5.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
Moore is a graduate student at Alabama and has been a mainstay in the Crimson Tide lineup since his true freshman season in 2020. Moore finished the 2023 campaign with 52 tackles, five tackles for loss, five pass breakups and one interception.
The Lott Impact Trophy is awarded annually to the IMPACT College Football Defensive Player of the Year. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
