The upcoming 2024 college football season will be one to remember for a number of reasons. For fans of Alabama Crimson Tide, it will be because the team will be led by a new coach. Following the conclusion of the 2023 season, Nick Saban announced his decision to retire from coaching after nearly two decades and a historic run with the Crimson Tide.
Old Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer was the man chosen to be Saban’s immediate successor, a position not envied by many.
Following Saban as Alabama’s head coach comes with high expectations, but it also comes with a challenge that many may not think about.
Saban had such a particular way of doing things that changing it could lead to a host of problems. For example, Saban was not one to celebrate excessively. How will players respond to DeBoer if he shows much more emotion than Saban?
Recently, Jalen Milroe talked about one of the biggest changes between the two coaches, and that essentially answers the question above.
On Saturday’s Down South podcast, Milroe talked about a specific instance where DeBoer wanted Milroe to celebrate an impressive pass in practice. This shocked Milroe because under Saban he was trained to be ready for the next play and not to marvel at an individual play.
