It was an Independence Day commitment for Zion Williams, the four-star Texas defensive lineman giving his speech to LSU on the 4th of July.

Williams is LSU’s thirteenth commitment in a class that is now ninth in the country, according to for 247 Sports.

A 6-foot-4, 330-pound defensive lineman from Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas), Williams is the No. 174 prospect in the ESPN 300. He is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals.

He was a dominant player for a Lufkin team that went 5-6 last season. Williams has enormous size that combines well with his agility and quickness to make him an imposing interior defensive lineman.

Williams chose LSU from a list of offers which also included Alabama, AuburnBaylor, Florida and TCU, among others.

He committed on Thursday with a social media post:

Williams took his official visit to LSU in late May. He also made official visits to Arkansas, Texas A&M and TCU.
