The SEC got a makeover this summer by adding former Big 12 powers Oklahoma It is Texas for the conference. As the Sooners and Longhorns enter the conference, college football fans can expect to see old rivalries revived while new rivalries form.

As the landscape changes, CBS Sports has reclassified every major SEC rivalryincluding Auburn’s rivalries with Alabama It is Georgia. Auburn representation starts second with the Iron Bowl.

CBS Sports’ Will Backus identifies Auburn’s rivalry with Alabama not as the oldest, but as the rivalry that has produced some of college football’s greatest moments in recent memory.

While it may not be as old as other entries on this list, few rivalries have produced as many memorable moments as the Iron Bowl. From Chris Davis’ kick six to Isaiah Bond’s miraculous fourth-down catch in Alabama’s most recent win against Auburn, the Iron Bowl gave fans a feast of highlights that will be played out for decades to come. These two state opponents can’t stand each other, and an Iron Bowl victory means more than anything else in the regular season.

Next up for Auburn is the Deep South’s oldest rivalry with No. 5 Georgia. Georgia’s recent run of success has allowed the Bulldogs to create separation in the series’ all-time record, but the rivalry’s longevity makes it one of sports’ best.

As the nickname suggests, there is considerable history between these two teams. It’s tied with North Carolina-Virginia (the South’s oldest rivalry) for the second most played series in the FBS, behind only the annual battle of Wisconsin and Minnesota for Paul Bunyan’s Axe. Not only is it old, Auburn vs. Georgia is typically very competitive; Although the Bulldogs have ruled the modern era, one doesn’t have to travel far back to find two heavyweights trading annual blows.

The Iron Bowl drops to second place in the CBS Sports rivalry rankings, with the Red River rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas taking the top spot. The Egg Bowl (Ole Miss-Mississippi State) and the largest cocktail in the world (Georgia-Florida) complete the top five in Backus’ ranking.
