Jalen Milroe became a household name during the 2023 college football season as a quarterback for the Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team. Milroe now hopes to take his game to the next level in 2024 under the leadership of new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.
So what led to Milroe’s success in his first season as a starter in 2023? According to Milroe, many factors led to this, but perhaps the most important one may surprise you.
During an individual interview with Adam BrenemanMilroe highlighted that having to wait his turn to be a starter is one of the best things for him.
“Honestly, I think the best thing for me was not playing initially coming into college,” Milroe said. “Learning from great quarterbacks who played college football. Of course, firsthand, having Bryce [Young] here. But also college football quarterbacks, with how well they’re playing, whoever was the best quarterback in the years when I wasn’t the quarterback, it was great for me to not play, to be observant, to look at football with a different lens. different because in the end it made me better. Being off the field and learning, growing with the coaches we had here, because we have a lot of people who have knowledge in general – everyone who was here. So that’s what I tried to do, keep building, because whenever my time presented itself it was time to execute and make the most of it.”
Milroe certainly took advantage of that opportunity last season by leading the Crimson Tide to a victory over Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship and a Rose Bowl appearance in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
The redshirt junior from Texas is expected to have one of the best seasons of any quarterback in the country in 2024.
