O Oklahoma earlier They are now official members of the SEC and will face the conference’s toughest roster to begin their campaign.
The Sooners will open SEC play on September 21 at home with SEC competitor Tennessee and face tough opponents away from home in Texas and Ole Miss in October. However, its first true “welcome to the SEC” experience will come on September 28, when Oklahoma visits Jordan-Hare Stadium for its first road game as a member of the SEC.
Jordan-Hare Stadium is considered one of the toughest stadiums in the country due to its noisy atmosphere and Auburn’s well-known ability to win games played within its walls. Auburn football coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] expects to showcase Jordan-Hare Stadium at full volume for Oklahoma this season.
“Well, Jordan-Hare, I think, will provide (Oklahoma) quite a challenge,” Freeze said in a recent talk in Alexander City.
The game’s official start time has not been announced. However, the SEC designated the game to start at the afternoon time. Freeze says the timing isn’t ideal, but expects Auburn’s home-field advantage to be in full force regardless.
“I wish they would get the nighttime version of Jordan-Hare,” Freeze said. “But Jordan-Hare is going to rock it anyway and I think they’re going to like it for sure.”
September’s matchup between Auburn and Oklahoma will be the third all-time and the first in the regular season. The Sooners have a 2-0 lead over Auburn, most recently defeating Auburn in the 2016 Sugar Bowl 35-19.
