The Oklahoma Sooners have assembled a defense that could be one of the best in the country in 2024. Brent Venables and his staff have recruited well over the past three cycles and made timely additions to the transfer portal. But one of the biggest stories of this offseason was the return of Danny Stutsman It is Billy Bowman who seemed to be heading towards the NFL Draft after strong 2023 seasons.

Getting Stutsman to lead the defense again was huge for the Sooners. He improved every year he was in Norman and became one of the best inside linebackers in the country. Stutsman was a Walter Camp preseason All-American selection and has a good chance of being named to the SEC first team when preseason selections are made.

Heading into Oklahoma’s inaugural season in the SEC, they’ll need Stutsman to be that guy.

At Roll Tide Wire, Brody Smoot ranked the 24 best players in the SEC in 2024 and Stutsman placed 11th.

Speaking of facing machines, another is Oklahoma senior linebacker Danny Stutsman. Over the past two seasons, Stutsman has recorded 229 tackles, six sacks and three interceptions. Following the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season, Stutsman was named an All-Big-12 First-Team selection. There will be some who speculate about how Oklahoma performs in the SEC. One thing is right. Stutsman will continue to be a fighting machine for Boomer Sooner. – Smooth, coiled tide wire

Only five defensemen ranked ahead of Stutsman. Tennessee James Pearce, Jr., LSUs Harold Perkins, Jr., from Georgia Mykell Williams and Malaki Starks, and old lady‘ Walter Nolen were the only defenders ahead of Stutsman.

Stutsman’s impact on the Oklahoma Sooners defense cannot be overstated. Without the Sooners’ linebacker for a game and a half against Kansas and Oklahoma State, the Sooners’ defense didn’t look the same and led to two Big 12 Oklahoma losses. Depth is better in 2024 as Kobie McKinzie, Kip LewisIt is Jaren Kanak has more experience, but Oklahoma needs Stutsman to have a clean bill of health through 2024 so the Sooners can compete.
