The 2023 Auburn football season can be compared to a rollercoaster, with several moments of hope for a better future and moments of despair mixed in.

The second season of [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] The era will begin in a few weeks, and Auburn fans are hoping the Tigers take a step forward in 2024. Freeze has worked tirelessly this offseason, recruiting top talent and adding experienced coaches to his staff to get Auburn out of its six-win funk. .

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports recently released its picks for head coaches entering “defining campaigns” in their second year, including Freeze. Freeze falls into the category titled “looking to make a leap.” Due to Auburn’s near wins against Georgia It is AlabamaPatterson expects Freeze to lead Auburn to more notable wins in 2024.

Freeze’s return to the SEC brought the same type of competitiveness against the best teams that we remember from his time at Ole Miss. Auburn was seven points behind Georgia, seven points behind Ole Miss and three points behind Alabama in 2023, and in all of those games (all at home), fans realized it wouldn’t take long to turn those losses into wins. Unfortunately, Auburn also lost to New Mexico State at home and recorded just one win against a bowl team this season. There is no panic about the future, but certainly some urgency to see if the Tigers can make a leap in 2024.

Now that the SEC has eliminated divisions from its scheduling format, Auburn has a better chance of winning more critical games. The Tigers will still face rivals Alabama and Georgia this season, but they will also face more balanced teams such as KentuckyVanderbilt, Arkansas and Missouri instead of playing LSU and Ole Miss.

Can Freeze lead Auburn to more than six wins for the first time since 2019 this season?
