Recruiting doesn’t take a break in the summer. In fact, it just heats up.

After a wave of official visits in June, July and August have been popular times for some of the country’s best to make college decisions. More are expected as the summer continues.

Here’s the latest from Rivals.com’s national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman:

Davis made official visits to South Carolina, Duke, North Caroline, Clemson It is Georgia this summer. Several programs have made big moves with the talented defenseman from Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley High, including the state Tar Heels and Georgia, which was hot at one point for Davis. However, Clemson got top-100 talent on campus first and set the standard for Davis, who commits on July 20.

Dear reopened his recruitment last month after making an official visit to Alabama and paying a visit to Baton Rouge. Lockhart reopened his recruitment this summer. Auburn’s one-time commitment from Winona (Miss.) High has already taken place on campus in Starkville and Mississippi State is a program that is on the rise at the right time with one of the state’s top defensive prospects.

Petty will make his college decision in August after staying busy over the summer. The Peach State’s talented offensive tackle made official visits to StanfordState of Florida, Tennessee, Ohio State It is Georgia Tech, and as he gets closer to his pick, it’s likely to be a three-way battle between Stanford, Florida State and Ohio State. Petty’s last official visit in June — to Tallahassee — made the biggest impact on the tackle and his family.

Since official visits ended in June, there has been heightened confidence in Columbus about the Buckeyes’ chances of signing Sanders. Until further notice, I consider Ohio State to be the program in charge.

Prediction: Ohio State

Smith has taken official visits to Miami, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Georgia over the past month, and is ready to make a decision on Saturday, July 20. Visits to South Carolina and Miami definitely caught Smith’s attention, but sources close to this recruitment saw the in-state Dawgs as the team to beat for much of the off-season. Georgia remains in pole position as the critical moment approaches.

Prediction: Georgia

Smith traveled a lot during the summer. The four-star defensive back from Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson High took official visits to South Carolina, Tennessee, USC, Florida State and Georgia in June. He is scheduled to return to The Plains for Big Cat Weekend later this month. Sources see this as a three-team battle between South Carolina, Florida State and Auburn, with the state’s Tigers in position to capitalize with a visit to the deck before Smith’s Aug. 3 decision.
