A new era of the Southeastern Conference was ushered in with the addition of Texas Longhorns It is Oklahoma earlierexpanding the league to 16-member schools and eliminating the divisional structure that had existed since 1992.

This week, the SEC is holding its annual media day events to allow both the conference itself and each respective program the opportunity to address the world of sports ahead of the 20s4 campaign. Among the initial topics was the plan for the football conference championship playoff.

“There are still a lot of adjustments to be made,” said Mark Womack, SEC associate commissioner. “But our ADs saw it. Our coaches saw different versions of this as we started to tweak and analyze everything. So we just want to try to make sure we cover all the different situations that may arise so there are no surprises.”

Although the end result is still quite nebulous, the conference bosses seem to have a vision of what they want.

“We have a really good idea, but we don’t want to share it yet,” Womack said. “Because some of the adjustments that occur can impact (where) we might want to flip two (tiebreakers).”

That leaves a lot of wiggle room for what becomes the league’s new policy. Still, it appears the SEC is leaving no stone unturned.

“But in some of them, as you go down, the probability of everything being equal is probably not very high when you get into some of the other parameters that are out there,” Womack said. “Reaching a coin toss or a draw if you had more than two would be possible, but unlikely.”
