USC football is being talked about a lot – but not in a consistently positive way. It’s clear the Trojans need to earn back respect and trust. Ducks Wire offered this Trojans title review in the 2024 season:

“The Trojans will have a hard time competing with the elite teams in their new league, at least for now. USC has never had a problem acquiring talent. What they do with that talent has been the question mark. Now it will have to recruit more directly against teams like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Oregon, still selecting talent in its own backyard. Hopefully Lincoln Riley is up to the task.”

Ducks Wire is kind in its treatment of USC. Another national college football announcer is not being kind.

Earlier this week, talk show host Paul Finebaum said he would have fired USC coach Lincoln Riley this offseason. Just two days later, he doubled down on his bet at SEC Media Days.

“Frankly, if I were the athletic director at USC, I would have fired Lincoln Riley because he still hasn’t demonstrated, after many years as a head coach, that he knows anything about defense — he’s been through defensive coordinators; he just couldn’t deal with it. And now things are going to be five times worse in the Big Ten. … This is a guy who owned Los Angeles for about half a minute, and next year at this time I think he’ll probably be an assistant in the NFL — if he’s that lucky.

You can watch Paul Finebaum, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo and Harry Douglas debate whether Lincoln Riley was a “disaster” at USC as the Trojans enter the Big Ten.
