Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers has made the 2024 preseason Maxwell Award watch list for the second year in a row. The award has been given to the College Player of the Year since 1937.
The third-year quarterback is coming off the best season of his career, leading the Longhorns to a 12-2 record and their first appearance in the College Football Playoffs. He threw for 5,656 career passing yards and 37 touchdowns, respectively eighth and seventh most all-time in Texas history.
Ewers completed 272 of 294 passes (69%) for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions last year. His best moments included throwing for 349 yards and three touchdowns to beat Alabama and a stellar performance against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship, passing for 452 yards and four touchdowns.
The anticipation for Ewers’ 2024 season has already begun. He is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy as Texas enters the SEC and is one of the cover players in the recently released College Football ’25 video game. Washington quarterback Michael Penix won the 2023 Maxwell Award, leading the Huskies to an undefeated regular season and the College Football Playoff.
