Jackson State football received a 2023 Wednesday commitment San Antonio College Junior College American defensive back Shamar Hawkins.
Hawkins on his social media page X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “God did it!!! #Committed #LLT #Gaurdtheyard @Coach_Magana @gojsutigersfb
Hawkins was listed as a member of the Northern Arizona University recruiting class in February.
Hawkins, who is 5-foot-11 and 22,190 pounds, had 46 total tackles, two sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and eight pass breakups. He is versatile and can play in several positions.
He will join a deep defensive group featuring players Ke’Vric Wiggins, BJ Wiggins and Esaias Guthrie, who last month was named to the 2024 Preseason All-SWAC team.
Jackson State opened fall camp on Monday and will begin the season on the road against ULM on August 29 (6 p.m., ESPN+).
