Aug. 2 – New Mexico punter Aaron Rodriguez was named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list on Friday.

Rodriguez, a sixth-year senior, is one of five Mountain West punters to make the list of 34. Named in honor of former Southern Miss All-American and NFL All-Pro Ray Guy, the award is given annually to the best college football bettor.

Rodriguez averaged 42.4 yards per punt last season and was named second-team All-Mountain West in 2022. He is expected to complete his final year of eligibility while attending the UNM College of Nursing this fall.

Additionally, New Mexico State offensive lineman Shiyazh Pete was named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list earlier this week.

Pete, a former first-team All-Conference USA offensive lineman, is one of 24 tackles named to the 75-player watch list and is just one of four Conference USA honorees. Last season, the redshirt junior helped anchor an offensive line that guided the Aggies (10-5) to a historic upset over Auburn and an appearance in the CUSA Championship game in their first season as members of the league.
