Florida Football running back Montrell Johnson Jr. suffered a knee injury during the first week of fall practice, a source confirmed to the Gainesville Sun on Saturday,
Johnson will have a knee evaluation and will be considered week-to-week for fall camp. O Florida alligators are four weeks away from the Aug. 31 season opener against Miami.
The 5-foot-10, 215-pound Johnson is Florida’s leading returning rusher, having gained 817 yards on 5.4 yards per carry and 5 TDs. This season, Johnson was expected to take on more duties with former UF running back Trevor Etienne’s decision to transfer to Georgia.
Overall, Johnson has gained 1,658 yards and scored 17 TDs (15 rushing, two receptions) for Florida since transferring to Florida from Louisiana to play for coach Billy Napier. He was named preseason first and second team All-SEC by several publications,
Florida’s depth behind Johnson at running back includes sophomore Treyaun Webb (26 carries, 163 yards, 2 TDs), JUCO transfer Ja’Kobi Jackson and true freshman Jadan Baugh, who impressed in UF’s spring game , rushing for a game-high 77 yards. 6.4 yards per carry. Tulane transfer running back Cam Carroll also returned to practice with the Gators after sitting out the entire 2023 season with a torn ACL.
