It’s no secret that Notre Dame is a program that has typically been built on defense in recent years. This is certainly reflected [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] being the program’s coach. Still, the fact is that the Irish have an elite defense, and that is reflected in the fact that that unit ranks fifth among Football Bowl Subdivision programs in total yards given up in 2023 (276.3 per game).
This defense is expected to be no less effective in 2024. Big Game Boomer, who makes many college football lists on social media, reflects this in his rankings for the best sports defenses entering the season. The Irish come third:
It’s no coincidence that the two programs ahead of the Irish, Michigan and Ohio State, ranked ahead of the Irish in total defense in 2023. In short, there should be a lot of changes in college football from last season in this regard. Then it will fit [autotag]Al Golden[/autotag] to maintain these expectations.
