There is no doubt that Texas LonghornThey have one of the most talented rosters in all of college football. From third-year starting quarterback Quinn Ewers to future first-round pick DE Ethan Burke, the Longhorns are fully prepared for their transition to the SEC.
However, Texas’ secret weapon is kicker Bert Auburn, who was selected All-Big 12 First Team a year ago. Heading into 2024, Auburn has been added to the watch list for the Lou Groza Award, which is given annually to college football’s best placekicker.
During the 2023 season, Auburn scored 143 total points, which was good for the third-most points in a single season in program history and the most ever for a kicker. In 28 career games with the Longhorns, Auburn has made 50/61 field goals, with seven of the 11 misses coming from more than 40 yards. He was also automatic on PATs making all 114 attempts.
Auburn could become the first UT kicker to win the award in the award’s 32-year history, with Miami of Ohio kicker Graham Nicholson the 2023 recipient.
