DETROIT– Replay analytics were unavailable for the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers during the first innings of Thursday night’s game at Comerica Park due to a technical issue that affected both teams’ broadcasts.

Major League Baseball said Detroit’s broadcast complex lost power shortly before first pitch, leaving both clubs without broadcasts. The commissioner’s office informed the Blue Jays and Tigers that neither team would be able to challenge the umpires’ calls via instant replay until the issue was corrected.

“If broadcast capabilities return, each club will have its normal manager challenge but will have unlimited crew chief evaluations for the remainder of the game,” MLB told teams.

The problem was resolved during the sixth inning, a Tigers spokesman said, and MLB confirmed that the replay system was back up and running beginning in the top of the seventh.

The score was tied 1-1 after six innings.

MLB said the problem was not unheard of at other stadiums, but the same problem occurred last year in Detroit and that game was played without replay review for seven innings.
