PARIS– After the French Open marathon came the sprint.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in just 40 minutes after a crushing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Anastasia Potapova.

Swiatek won without even facing a game point against her. The match ended when Potapova hit a forehand into the net on the first match point.

“I was really focused and focused,” Swiatek said. “It was very fast, very strange.”

The match started around 11am

This happened just eight hours after defending men’s champion Novak Djokovic finished his five-set, 4.5-hour marathon against Lorenzo Musetti shortly after 3am, in the last final in the tournament’s history.

Swiatek remains on track for her third consecutive French Open title and fourth overall. The top-ranked Pole will face Wimbleon champion Marketa Vondrousova after the fifth-seeded Czech defeated Serbian Olga Danilovic 6-4, 6-2.

They played on the Suzanne Lenglen court, the only other court with a roof. After five consecutive days of rain delays, play on the other roofless courts began on time.

Later on Sunday, third-seeded American Coco Gauff faced Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner and two-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz competed in the men’s fourth round.

Second-placed Sinner faced Frenchman Corentin Moutet and third-placed Alcaraz faced Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 21.
