LAS VEGAS – Kevin Durant is dealing with calf pain that has prevented him from fully participating in USA Basketball’s training camp for the Paris Olympics, although he assured team officials that he does not expect the problem to be serious.

“Day to day,” U.S. coach Steve Kerr said. “Let’s just show an abundance of caution.”

Durant is the second forward who was unable to fully participate in the U.S. camp, which had its second day of on-the-ground training on Sunday; Boston forward Jayson Tatum was exempt from the first two days of training camp for personal reasons and is expected to be on the field with his U.S. teammates for the first time on Monday.

“He’s frustrated,” USA Basketball and Phoenix Suns teammate Devin Booker said of Durant. “He can’t be there with us.”

It’s unknown when Durant will be cleared to play or whether he is considering Kerr for the Americans’ first exhibition game of the pre-Olympic season against Canada on Wednesday. The USA will have five friendly games before arriving in Paris and opening the Olympic match against Serbia on July 28.

“I think he adjusted it a few days before he got here,” Kerr said. “It’s not bad. He’s assuring me it’s not bad. We’re just going to be very careful and smart and take it day by day and go from there.”

Durant could become the first four-time gold medalist in men’s Olympic basketball history this summer after helping the Americans win titles in London in 2012, Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and the rescheduled Tokyo Games three years ago. summers. He scored 435 points in Olympic games, 99 more than three-time gold medalist Carmelo Anthony, the most in U.S. men’s history.
