MUNICH — Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to score at a men’s European Championship on Tuesday when he scored a stunning goal against France in the semi-final.
Yamal, 16, scored in the 21st minute, stunningly finishing past French goalkeeper Mike Maignan and hitting the post into the top left corner.
Yamal is 16 years and 362 days old. The previous youngest scorer was Switzerland’s Johan Vonlanthen (18 years and 141 days), also against France, at Euro 2004.
The score is currently 2-1. Yamal’s goal canceled out Randal Kolo Muani’s goal for France.
French defender Jules Koundé deflected the ball into his own goal four minutes after Yamal’s goal, giving Spain the lead.
