First positive doping test at Paris Olympics is Iraqi judoka for anabolic steroids

PARIS– A judoka from Iraq tested positive for two anabolic steroids in Paris Olympicsthe International Testing Agency said on Friday.

It was the first case of doping at these Summer Games and was announced hours before the start of the opening ceremony.

Sajjad Sehen, a 28-year-old first-time Olympian, tested positive for metandienone and boldenone in a sample collected in Paris on Tuesday. He was supposed to compete next Tuesday.

Sehen is provisionally suspended while a disciplinary case is processed, said the ITA, which oversees the International Olympic Committee’s anti-doping program during the Games.

“This means that the athlete is prevented from competing, training, training or participating in any activity during the Olympic Games,” the agency said.

Sehen was supposed to compete in the men’s under-81 kilogram category, starting on Tuesday, in the round of 16, against an opponent from Uzbekistan.

O ITA anti-doping program at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, it captured six athletes during the official period of the games, out of 6.2 thousand samples collected.
