PARIS– PARIS (AP) — Lady Gaga delivered a dazzling performance as the first musical act during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics – except everything was pre-recorded.
The Grammy and Oscar-winning artist began her performance on the steps along the River Seine, singing “Mon Truc en Plumes” in a tribute to French dancer, actress and singer Zizi Jeanmaire. She was accompanied by a troupe of eight dancers carrying pink feather fans, all in custom Dior suits, before moving on to the piano.
“Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with the French people and the singing of French music – I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and so on. such an important occasion reminds everyone of one of the most magical cities on the planet: Paris”, wrote the singer in X after her performance.
Representatives for the singer did not immediately respond to a request for comment about why her performance was pre-recorded.
An Associated Press reporter saw Gaga begin warming up about three hours before the opening ceremony began, performing for about an hour before waving to fans as she walked away.
Gaga’s appearance was a surprise — she wasn’t listed in a program provided to the media in advance — but there were plenty of rumors after the singer and actor was spotted in Paris.
