PARIS– The French government claims that several telecommunications lines have been hit by acts of vandalism, affecting fiber lines and fixed and mobile phone lines, while cities around France organize events for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The scale of the impact is unclear, as is whether it affected any Olympic activities. The vandalism occurred after Personal attacks hit railway networks across France on Friday, hours before the Olympics opening ceremony.

Marina Ferrari, secretary of state responsible for digital affairs, posted on X that the damage in several regions overnight from Sunday to Monday affected telecommunications operators. She said this has led to a localized impact on access to fiber lines and fixed and mobile phone lines.

Organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics did not immediately comment.

A French police official said at least six French administrative departments were affected, including the region around the Mediterranean city of Marseille, home to Olympic football It is sailing competitions.

Telecommunications operators Bouygues and Free confirmed that their services were affected. French media reports said lines operated by provider SFR were also hit. Free’s controller said that its teams are mobilized to restore services.
