The Lions and Giants held a joint workout as the new NFL season approached.

Jones is putting in important training minutes following his return to action from a torn ACL.

The 27-year-old was only fully cleared for football a few days before the start of training camp.

But he’s ready to fight after a brutal session at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in New Jersey.

The day got off to an angry start when Lions star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown got into a confrontation with a Giants offensive lineman on the second play of live practice.

Several punches were thrown in the initial melee, for ESPN.

Moments later, Jones and his offense entered the field and were involved in another melee.

Giants coach Brian Daboll was upset with Lions defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike for hitting Jones’ arm during a throwing play.

Jones, like all quarterbacks in practice games, wore a red non-contact jersey.

In footage widely shared online, Jones appears to shove Lions forward Alim McNeill, sparking a complete melee.

‘Patrick Mahomes couldn’t win behind that’, slams the Giants GM in the Hard Knocks clip while defending quarterback Daniel Jones

“This just wins a few points with me, DJ,” wrote one Giants fan in response for filming.

“I loved the fire. I hope it continues,” said another.

“Protect your QB1 NYC,” a third added.

“I don’t like the Giants, but what a way to defend your players, damn,” gasped a fourth.

“I appreciate [Daboll’s support],” Jones told reporters after practice, via ESPN.

“This is not something that normally happens in a practical situation.

“But it’s a competitive practice and the guys are trying hard.”

Jones helped lead the Giants to a 9-6-1 record and the postseason in 2022.

He signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the franchise in March 2023, only to suffer a season-ending injury in Week 9 of last season.

Delighted to be back on the training field, Jones was quick to praise his teammates for their “competitive spirit,” despite Monday’s practice being likened to a “Royal Rumble.”

“A situation goes like this, you try to defend your guys,” Jones continued.

“I thought it was a good competitive practice all day and we made some plays and did some good things.

“There are some things we need to reinforce, for sure, but good intensity and competitive spirit.”

“Daniel was nervous about it. Was Daniel outside?” Giants edge rusher Brian Burns added after the chaotic scenes.

“Yeah. I’ll need him to back it up. Let your O-line handle it.”

“But Daniel, he’s a competitor, man. He is a fighter.

“So I don’t expect anything less from him. But I don’t need him in this. I don’t need him to get hit. Keep him healthy.”
