SAN Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey appears resigned to Brandon Aiyuk’s departure from the organization.
The Niners star running back accidentally called the fifth-year running back his “former teammate” in a recent interview with NFL Network.
McCaffrey took time out of Niners practice on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming season with the network.
The 28-year-old was asked about the ongoing saga with Aiyuk, who is entering the final year of his contract in San Francisco.
Aiyuk could be traded by the Niners after rejecting the team’s terms to seek a lucrative contract elsewhere.
McCaffrey was asked about the situation and accidentally referred to himself as a “former teammate” of the wide receiver.
“A teammate of his,” the three-time Pro Bowler quickly corrected himself.
“Any teammate you have, you love them, you respect them and you want the best for them.”
McCaffrey’s slip-up was immediately attacked by fans on social media.
“Christian was never very good at keeping secrets smh,” laughed one fan in response for filming.

“Aiyuk will obviously be traded. There is no way a contract will be signed with San Fran,” declared another.
“I think the whole world knows that Aiyuk is gone. It’s just a question of which team Aiyuk will choose,” said a third.
“He’s OUT OF HERE, they can’t even hide it,” commented a fourth.
Aiyuk is under contract with the Niners through 2024, and the team can use the franchise tag to retain his rights for the next two years.
After requesting a trade, the wideout attended training camp but has since refused to practice.
“We’ve been at this point for a while, so nothing really new to me,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday.

“You’re always disappointed when you can’t control all your players or when things aren’t going very well.
“I don’t like losing anyone, so I hope everything works out here.
“But at the moment we haven’t resolved that yet. I hope so.”
The defending NFC champions are still “willing to keep Aiyuk,” per ESPN.
“Brandon is a great player, so it’s really hard to be better when you lose a great player,” Shanahan continued.
“We have to investigate anything. We have to understand the situation we are in, what it is like, and that takes time.
“So hopefully everything will work out better for him and for us in the long run.”
