The spring transfer portal opened this week and will close on April 30.

But Sanders said the players who wanted to leave Colorado were mostly reserves.

And when pressed by local reporters about the loss of “potential starters”, the coach reacted.

“You didn’t watch the training, huh?” he said.

“We are fine. I trust the recruiting team.

“I trust our coaches and please have faith in me.

“We’re fine. We’re fine. We’re fine.”

One of the players in the portal is former five-star cornerback Cormani McClain – who struggled in his first season in Colorado.

Sanders stated, “I want what’s best for him, man. I really do.

“I want that boy to fly high. I want him to become a man.

“I want him to be the best possible athlete, human being and person he could be.

“Sometimes you need to disconnect from something to reconnect to something else to reset, re-energize and stabilize you.

“I don’t dislike any of the kids that leave, man, because I just want the best for them.”

Two of Deion’s sons play for the Buffaloes – quarterback Shedeur and safety Shilo.

Shilo posted on social media earlier this week that players interested in transferring should contact him or Shedeur.

But an adamant Deion said. “That’s the way it goes – players recruit players, man.

“We do a wonderful job as a team, but they need to be validated by the players because they play with those players you’re talking about, whether it’s in high school or in all-star games.

“They know someone who knows someone.

“That’s how recruiting works, man. In truth. They are players.

“They know who the dogs are and who the cats are.”
