Mahomes was a star baseball player at Whitehouse High School in Texas and grew up with a father who played in the MLB.

He thought he could follow in his father’s footsteps, but discovered football was his true calling.

Mahomes recently revealed to Time Magazine that he still loves baseball even though he isn’t playing.

“I talked to the royals,” Mahomes told Time.

“And if I can go to spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’m going to get it approved by the Chiefs and everything.

“But maybe one of these years I’ll go out there and see what I’ve accomplished. See if I can still hit the ball or throw or whatever.

“Maybe not in games, but I can at least practice with them.”

Mahomes is a part-owner of the Royals, so his word already has some influence in the building.

“He is a member of the team, he can do whatever he wants. It would be amazing. It would be fun to have him around.

“I know some of our guys have relationships with him. But if you want to come down, we’d love for him to come down.

“The problem is when we’re in spring training, he’s celebrating the Super Bowl. The timing doesn’t always coincide.

“It would be cool, though. It would be cool to have it. We’d love it.”
