The Kansas City Chiefs’ top wide receiver could miss an extended period of time in 2024.

After a hit-and-run incident in March, Rashee Rice could face a heavy suspension from the NFL.

According to NFL reporter James Palmer, Rice could miss half the season for his offense.

“He’s going to be suspended, we’re going to get that out there,” Palmer said.

“They’re waiting at least half the season.”

On the contrary, league insider Ian Rapoport said Rice could play the entire 2024 season.

This is based on the length of the legal process in Rice’s hit-and-run case.

“As you guys explained, the offense without Rashee Rice there, what we don’t know is whether or not he will be eligible to start the season with the Kansas City Chiefs,” Rapoport said.

“And it really depends on how quickly the legal process unfolds. If his case – and he was charged with, I believe, six counts – if the case is dismissed, then there is potential for the NFL to issue his discipline and he would probably be suspended.

“If the case is still ongoing, as we have seen with several others, then he would likely be eligible to play this season.

“Discipline would be addressed the following season. So the timing is really an issue, not whether or not he will be suspended.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed a similar sentiment of waiting to see how the legal process plays out.

Travis Kelce is the ‘biggest winner this offseason’ according to show guest Kay Adams following Kansas City Chiefs additions

“First, we allow the legal process to move forward,” Goodell said.

“Obviously, we are watching closely and once the process is complete, we will be engaged and prepared to review all of this under our personal conduct policy.”

Rice faces eight charges related to a March 30 hit-and-run incident.

The charges include aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.

Police alleged that Rice and another driver were speeding on U.S. Highway 75 in a Lamborghini SUV.

They were caught on camera getting out of the car and driving away after the incident.

Rice turned himself in to police five days after the accident and admitted to being involved.

“During the interview, Mr. Rice acknowledged that he was driving the Lamborghini,” said Rice’s attorney, Senator Royce Royce West.

“That was the question he was asked. And he replied that he was driving the Lamborghini.”

Rice recorded 938 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season last year.

The Chiefs drafted wide receiver Xavier Worthy during the NFL Draft as his likely replacement on offense if suspended.
