During the selection, fans would never have thought that Alt was drafted as he and his girlfriend had dark looks on their faces.

As the NFL commissioner announced Alt’s selection to the Chargers, Alt’s girlfriend, Emilie Meyer, seemed emotionless about the pick.

However, it was later revealed that Alt’s viewing group feed was lagging and they had not yet discovered the pick.

Later, Alt and Meyer were shown sharing a big hug after the feed was updated.

While the broadcast was delayed, fans joked about Meyer’s lifeless expression and speculated why she looked unhappy.

“Blink twice if you are held against your will,” one fan tweeted.

“This is the look on the face of someone who realized that his game checks will be taxed at 65% because he will be in Cali,” said another fan.

“The look of disappointment on his face tells you everything you need to know,” said a third fan.

“She was kidnapped? Can we do a health check?” a fourth fan said.

Meyer’s face may have reflected some Chargers fans’ opinions on the selection, as many speculated that a wide receiver would be the team’s pick.

Jim Harbaugh has lived in a trailer since leaving Michigan for the LA Chargers and says ‘I’ve always wanted to do this’

Both LSU’s Malik Nabers and Washington’s Rome Odunze were available at No. 5.

Coach Jim Harbaugh understood that there would be speculation about his selection and defended it to the media.

“I know the question will come up and you’ll say, ‘How about a gun?’ We see offensive linemen as weapons,” Harbaugh said.

“This group, when we talk about offense, the offensive line is the tip of the spear.”

Alt was the top offensive lineman in this year’s draft, allowing just one sack in his final two seasons.

He played 38 games at Notre Dame and thought it was possible the Chargers would sign him after his interview.

“I thought I had a great interview at the combine and I had a great time with coach Harbaugh and the staff and we talked about the game on the offensive line,” Alt said.

Alt now joins one of the best offensive lines in the NFL alongside Rashawn Slater and Zion Johnson.
