Taulia lobbied for a sixth year of NCAA eligibility, but his request was denied.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said the Dolphins had their eye on Taulia in the draft, saying Tua lobbied to add him to the team.

“Tua lobbies for the person and the player, but Tua doesn’t accumulate family members,” McDaniel said.

“He wants him to go in the best situation. He’s a good kid.”

Taulia was named the 2023 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year and was a second-team All-Big Ten quarterback in consecutive years.

He started all 12 games for Maryland in 2023, leading the Big Ten in completions (290), attempts (437), yards (3,377) and passing touchdowns (25).

However, he also led the Big Ten in interceptions with 11 giveaways on the year.

Taulia was a full-time starter at Maryland from 2021-2023, racking up 10,245 yards and 69 touchdowns in that span.

He added 11 rushing touchdowns and 159 rushing yards to those totals.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald was impressed with Taulia’s first few days at the team’s mini camp.

“It’s good to see them complete the ball today. They’re right there,” Macdonald said.

“I thought they threw the ball well. They got the cadences, they didn’t just hit one more.

“I thought they handled the ball well.”

The current quarterbacks on the Seahawks’ roster are Geno Smith, Sam Howell and undrafted free agent Chevan Cordeiro.

Taulia would have to make a huge impression to make the active roster as a third-string quarterback.
