The 30-year-old announced his retirement from the NFL on social media.

Johnson played eight seasons in the NFL and last appeared in a game in 2022.

He announced his retirement on Sunday via Instagram.

“Eight years, four teams with one goal in mind, to create a better life for my family,” Johnson wrote.

The post continued as the University of Miami product wrote that he “never dreamed of being the all-time leading rusher at my dream school or being somewhere on the list of all-time players to come out of South Florida.” .

Johnson remains the Hurricanes’ all-time leading rusher (3,519 yards).

“I just wanted an opportunity to play a game to provide a better life for my family and I was able to do just that,” the post continued.

“I want to thank each team for giving me the chance to play and represent their organization and all the fans who have supported me through the ups and downs.”

Johnson added, “Last, but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, I want to thank my GOD for allowing me to take this journey and finish it as healthy as I started it.

“That being said, I am officially retiring from the NFL. I hope I left a bigger impression on you, bigger than football.”

The Cleveland Browns selected Johnson in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He played with the Browns for four seasons, recording 299 carries for 1,286 yards and five touchdowns.

Johnson also had 235 receptions for 2,170 yards and eight touchdowns.

Cleveland traded Johnson to the Houston Texans before the 2019 season.

He spent two seasons in Houston.

Johnson returned to his hometown of Miami with the Dolphins in 2021.

The veteran played one game for the Buffalo Bills during the 2022 season.

Johnson finished his NFL career with 97 games played, accumulating 2,265 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on 532 career rushing attempts.

He earned $15 million during his eight-year career.
