Penny missed most of the 2023 season after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL.

The former San Diego Aztecs star has been plagued by injuries since entering the league in 2018.

He broke his fibula in 2022 and also tore his ACL in 2019.

The 28-year-old joins his former Seattle Seahawks coach Dave Canales in Charlotte.

But he enters an already crowded field.

The Panthers drafted Jonathon Brooks in the second round of last month’s NFL Draft.

Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear are also in the lineup alongside the talented rookie.

“This could work if he stays healthy,” one Panthers fan wrote on X.

“Goodbye, Miles Sanders!” said another.

“Maybe he’ll get some playing time there. He barely touched the rock last season, so who knows how good he is. But he should definitely be in good health!” added a third.

“He’s well rested for sure,” commented a fourth.

Penny was selected 27th overall by the Seahawks in 2018.

He signed a four-year, $10.7 million contract with the franchise after averaging 11.4 yards per carry in college.

Penny’s best season in Seattle came with Canales as passing game coordinator in 2021.

During that season, the dual-threat back rushed 119 times for 749 yards and six touchdowns.

This could work if he stays healthy.

In 45 career games, he has 1,951 yards and 13 scores.

The terms of Penny’s deal with the Panthers were not disclosed by the organization on Monday.

Since entering the NFL, the talented Californian has earned $17.2 million, per Spotrac.

He joins a Panthers team in need of a rebuild after a dismal 2-15 season in 2023.

It was Carolina’s sixth consecutive losing season and extended their playoff drought to seven years.
