The NFL may be looking to add a new broadcast partner for the 2024 NFL season.

With some NFL games already happening on Amazon Prime and Peacock, a third streamer could enter the picture this season.

According to Boomer Esiason, Netflix could be on the list to host games on Christmas Day.

“Netflix has about 200 million subscribers worldwide,” Esiason said.

“If you want to take it with a grain of salt, you can take it with a grain of salt. Don’t be surprised if the NFL and Netflix go to bed for a nice football game on Christmas Day.

“I wouldn’t be surprised.”

The NFL is seeking a big payout for the Christmas games, $50 to $100 million for the rights.

Meanwhile, Netflix has been exerting its efforts to show that it can hold live events.

Last weekend, the streamer hosted the Tom Brady roast to huge success.

They also hosted unique live golf events during Formula 1 weekends.

The biggest problem with including Netflix in Christmas Day games would be taking away games from CBS and Fox.

Theoretically, these networks should already have the rights to these games, but the NFL is trying to capitalize on last season’s record numbers.

Christmas Day games in 2023 have ranked in the top five since 1988. The Raiders-Chiefs game drew 29.6 million viewers, the second most in Christmas Day history.

The Giants-Eagles game drew 29 million viewers, while the 49ers-Ravens game drew 27.6 million viewers.

All of these games took place on Monday, while this year’s Christmas Day games will be on Wednesday.

However, NFL executive vice president of media distribution Hans Schroeder explained the decision to play on the odd date.

“From what we’ve seen over the last two years, there’s really been unprecedented growth, and not just at Christmas, but also at Thanksgiving,” Schroeder said.

“The last two years have had the greatest regular season game ever seen in the regular season. This mentality, this opportunity, this belief we have that football brings people together – this is even more true on these big holidays that take place throughout the year. .

What we already know

ONLY one matchup has been confirmed for the 2024 NFL regular season so far.

That’s the Week 1 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers on Friday, September 6th.

The game will be played at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil, and will be broadcast live on Peacock across the United States.

We also know the identity of the home teams in the three games in London, England, and one in Munich, Germany.

The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will host games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the other home team in London will be the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.

The Carolina Panthers are also confirmed for the game at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

“When we saw last year’s ratings, our fans really spoke out. We certainly see and believe that they are really enjoying and wanting NFL football at Christmas.

“So what we’re going to do is play some games, like we’ve normally played for over a decade, probably more than that, on Saturday of Week 16, and then come back and play some games on Christmas Day, Wednesday.”

While there may be a concern about injuries from playing in a short week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell explained that Wednesday’s games will continue as normal.

“Well, I guess the days are the same for us. We accomplished that,” Goodell said.

“Actually, COVID was a learning opportunity, I think it was the first time we played on a Wednesday.

“But the break between games has been done before. We have not seen any increase in injuries.

“All of you, and we, had a lot of focus on Thursday night when we first put it in, and we still haven’t seen any kind of increase in injuries.
