ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith revealed he agreed to a Tom Brady-style Netflix roast — only for his sister to veto the idea.
The 56-year-old made the revelation while recording his hit show First Take on Wednesday.
Smith and the panel were discussing Brady’s controversial roast during a segment led by ESPN’s Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo.
Brady admits he “regrets” taking part in the Netflix special, which featured jokes about his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.
“I didn’t like the way it affected my kids,” the seven-time Super Bowl winner told the Pivot podcast.
Mad Dog was furious with Brady for taking over the roast and went on a long tirade against the idea.
“What did you think was going to happen?!” the ESPN analyst roared in his popular segment Why Are You Crazy?
“It got nasty, your kids found out and now you have buyers’ remorse.
“Really? Really, Tom?”
Stephen A. interrupted proceedings to argue on Brady’s behalf, claiming the NFL legend “didn’t know” his ex-wife would be in the line of fire.

As the argument intensified, the 56-year-old suddenly made a surprise revelation.
“I can confess on national television — I actually got called out,” Smith said.
“They wanted to roast me. And I was going to do that, it doesn’t bother me.
“My sister Carmen intervened: ‘Of course not! This will not happen.’
“She said, ‘I’m moving up the ranks. You’re not going to do that. End of discussion.'”
“I love Carmen,” laughed co-analyst Chiney Ogwumike in response.
“Wait, were you going to make Netlfix’s roast?” asked Molly Qerim, the show’s host, shocked.

“There were rumors that Coach Belichick would be here tonight. Turns out he has some time on his hands. Look, at least when I got fired, someone else wanted me.”

Qerim went on to say that there were “no advantages” to the format.
“I think certain things should be kept personal,” she added.
Brady was married to ex-wife Gisele for 13 years and the two have two children.
They divorced in October 2022 and the Brazilian model was “deeply disappointed” by some of the jokes on the Netflix show.
The first show airs on ESPN every weekday starting at 10am ET.
