AUBURN running back Brian Battie was seriously injured in a shooting on Saturday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 a.m. ET in Battie’s hometown of Sarasota, Florida.
Four victims, including Battie, were sent to the hospital during the shooting. His brother, Tommie L. Battie IV, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tommie previously played football at Braden River High School.
“We are aware of the situation and continue to gather information,” an Auburn spokesperson confirmed.
Witness Tony Ricardo lives across the street from the crime scene and says incidents are becoming more frequent in the area.

“It’s sad, very sad,” said Ricardo WSFA12.
The junior offensive lineman transferred to Auburn for the 2023 season after playing at South Florida.
Battie primarily served as a kick returner for Auburn football in the 2023 season, recording 645 yards on 29 attempts.
His work as a return man has Battie ranking fifth in the SEC in kick return average. He also added 227 rushing yards and a touchdown on 51 carries.

Battie’s best season came in 2022 at South Florida, where he rushed for 1,186 yards with eight touchdowns.
The year before, he had an All-American season as a defensive back, racking up 650 kick return yards and running three kick returns for touchdowns.
College football fans shared an outpouring of support for the injured star and his family.
“This is sick. Prayers for this young man and his family,” said one fan.
“Prayers for him and the Auburn family,” said another fan.
“God bless your family and comfort them,” said a third fan.
“A lot of young people in this type of situation. I hope he recovers,” said a fourth fan.
“Sending prayers to this young man and his family!” a fifth fan said.
