The Philadelphia Eagles received surprise news that one of their players is retiring just two months after signing a big-money contract.
Former Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker has decided to retire to spend more time with his family.

This is despite signing a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Eagles in March.
The 31-year-old revealed his decision to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
“I want to see my kids and spend quality time with them,” Parker said.
“I want to be there for them whenever I can.”
Parker has been an NFL player for nine seasons, seven with the Dolphins and the last two with the Patriots.
He had 402 receptions for 5,660 yards and 27 touchdowns in his career.
His best season came in 2019 with Miami, when Parker had 72 receptions for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns.
This is despite a disappointing season for the Dolphins when they finished 5-11.

Last season wasn’t as strong for Parker, on a Patriots team that really struggled in its final campaign under legendary coach Bill Belichick.
Parker had 33 receptions for 394 yards, no touchdowns, in 13 games.
Parker admits he will greatly miss the closeness he had with his teammates throughout his career.
“(It’s) the camaraderie. The brotherhood in the locker room, whatever the team,” he said.
“Everyone always welcomed me with open arms and I appreciated them for that.”
“I also thank the Dolphins for drafting me and giving me the opportunity.

The Eagles certainly have a lot to prove in the 2024 season after the way they ended the last campaign.
Philadelphia was 10-1 at one stage in 2023 but fell to finish 11-6.
And they were no match for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wild Card Weekend, losing 32-9.
