The Kansas City Chiefs have changed their minds about releasing a Super Bowl champion.
After releasing him last week, the Chiefs decided to waive defensive tackle Matt Dickerson.
Dickerson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from the Tennessee Titans in 2018.
He spent his first three seasons with the Titans as a player, only appearing in 18 games over those three seasons.
Dickerson joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 after spending 2021 out of the league.
He only appeared in six games for them, racking up 12 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Dickerson’s first year with the Chiefs came in 2023, and he played in a career-high 12 games for the team.
He also recorded a career-high 15 tackles and one tackle for loss in the Super Bowl season.
Dickerson made a divisional round appearance against the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs, but not in the championship round or Super Bowl.
The Chiefs had an open spot to resign Dickerson after releasing running back La’Mical Perine.

Perine spent two seasons with the Chiefs, winning two Super Bowls in the process.
The 26-year-old has had limited time on the field in 2023 as he competes for touches with Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Isaiah Pacheco.
He only managed to touch the football 25 times for 110 yards. Perine saw 55 special teams snaps in addition to his 59 offensive snaps.
Fans were surprised by Perine’s release, thinking others would go before him.
“Wow, I thought he would make the team instead of CEH, I guess I was wrong,” said one fan.
“Thanks to him! He played crucial minutes on the way to winning the Super Bowl,” said another fan.
“He never got a fair chance,” said a third fan.
“I thought he showed a lot of potential,” said a fourth fan.
The Chiefs went through a lot of roster changes after their second consecutive Super Bowl victory.
The team released several key players, such as Travis Kelce and Chris Jones, while also trading cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
The Chiefs also added heavily to their wide receiver corps, signing former Arizona Cardinal Marquise Brown and drafting Xavier Worthy.
With OTAs just beginning, the Chiefs will likely have many more moves to make before the 2024 season begins.
