ROBERT Griffin III has launched a furious defense of football players after Austin Rivers made a “very disrespectful” comment.
Rivers insists he has no regrets after sparking a debate over whether NBA players would be better equipped to play in the NFL or vice versa.
And the fight reignited again after the former guard joined ESPN’s Get Up as a panelist.
Josh Allen’s coy comment that he could give an NBA team “a good six or seven minutes off the bench” was used as a punchline at the end of the show.
NFL reporter Kimberley A. Martin said she could see a football player playing in the NBA “much easier” than the opposite scenario.
Rivers said he “lost all credibility” and repeated the case he made on The Pat McAfee Show.
Griffin III couldn’t resist giving his opinion and attacked Rivers, whose expression turned into an angry grimace.
“Listen, Austin, your comment was very disrespectful at first towards football players, but that’s neither here nor there,” Griffin said. “I really think Josh Allen, at 6-5 and 237 pounds, could give you seven minutes of tenacious D off the bench.
“But I will go even further for you, Austin, because I respect the game of basketball.
“I know there are a lot of hoopers in the NFL.

“I think a guy like Keon Coleman, who was a two-sport star not only in high school but also played at Michigan State, he could go to the NBA right now and score a point before any basketball player you know. could mention could. come to the NFL and score a touchdown.
“If he could, he would,” Rivers responded before mentioning the example of Charlie Ward.
The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback was largely a backup point guard in the NBA.
“I’m a Heisman Trophy winner, Austin,” Griffin responded. “I know Charlie Ward was a basketball player.
“He was a quarterback who should have played in the NFL and went on to play in the NBA.
“Come on, man. Like I know that.”
Host Mike Greenberg admitted he lost complete control as the war of words subsided.
“This conversation is ridiculous,” Rivers said.
“Yes, but you started it,” Greenberg responded.
“Charlie Ward was a STARTING point guard and also a starter on a team that went to the NBA Finals. Austin Rivers needs to relax,” commented one fan on social media clip.
“There was a time when Charlie Ward was the best point guard AND the best QB in New York,” added another.
“Charlie Ward was also a great college basketball player at FSU. Bad comparison,” added a third. “The fact is that guys who barely played college football and were actually pitchers made it to the NFL.”
