NEW York Jets star CJ Mosley has high expectations for two of his biggest names, Aaron Rodgers and Sauce Gardner.

Rodgers, 40, a four-time NFL MVP, signed a two-year, $75 million contract with the Jets following his trade to the Green Bay Packers last offseason.

Unfortunately for Rodgers and the Jets, his rookie season was as bad as it gets.

After taking the field to great fanfare, Rodgers suffered a brutal Achilles tear on his first attempt, ending his season.

Now with Rodgers preparing for what everyone involved with the team surely hopes will be a return for good, Jets linebacker Mosley, 31, spoke to The US Sun following the announcement of the Jets’ game in London against the Minnesota Vikings on October 6th. .

The five-time Pro Bowl linebacker was high on Rodgers before his sophomore season, calling him “one of the smartest quarterbacks in this game.”

“He can lead us wherever he can. And as a defensive player, we’re just going to do our job to keep as many points off the board and give him the ball as many times as we can.”

Combining Rodgers’ intelligence with his vast experience over 19 seasons, Mosley believed that was a big part of what makes the Super Bowl XLV champion a defensive nightmare.

“With his offense and the personnel he has with them, he is able to change plays at the line of scrimmage,” Mosley explained.

“He is able to see plays that in no second [or] the third-year player might not be able to see it. Or even some veterinarians still today.

“When you’re in the system, he’s been there so long and he’s been able to make adjustments and change things and be able to play 10-plus years, and now you can go back eight years and see how the game has progressed. .

“So, just having that longevity in the game, obviously, just seeing a lot of game snaps, just playing football that long, you just get better and learn things and really become a player’s coach on the field.”

Taking a look at the 2024 NFL schedule

Rodgers will have a vastly revamped offense to work with this season, with the Jets making several additions through free agency and the Draft.

Offensive tackle Olu Fashanu was drafted 11th overall to add space to an offensive line that also added Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses and John Simpson this offseason.

Third-round wideout Malachi Corley and veteran Mike Williams would also bolster their receiving corps, while Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis were drafted to help in the run game.

As for the defense, there is one name that stands out.

Gardner, a two-time First Team All-Pro cornerback, is already one of the best at his position in the league at just 23 years old.

“He’s one of those players that you think is going to be talked about a lot just because of his personality off the field,” Mosley said of Gardner.

“But when he’s on the field, when we’re in the classroom, no, he’s locked away.

“He’s taking notes, asking questions, communicating on the field, behind the scenes.

“So he’s a very, very smart cornerback for his age.”

Mosley commented that Gardner has the ability to see things before they happen.

He also felt that Gardner is a player who has “no ceiling,” adding, “If he wants it, if he wants it, he can get it.

“With this defense, with the offense, with the points we’re trying to put on the scoreboard and the lead we’re trying to play, we’re trying to force them to pass the ball and let him go get it. .

“So more interceptions, more touchdowns, more money for him and more money for all of us.”

On the topic of money, Mosley signed a new two-year contract worth $17.25 million this offseason.

Looking ahead to his 10th season in the league, Mosley said his top priority is his health.

“It’s no secret that I’m one of the oldest players on this team, as the league says, but my mentality hasn’t changed and my love for this game hasn’t changed.

“But one thing you can’t fight is injuries.

And that’s exactly what comes with football. So, staying rested, keeping my body in order, trying to be 100% as much as I can after every game, and just doing what I’ve been doing for the last nine, 10 years.

“Just be consistent, speak up and keep improving.

“So I’m really excited, excited for another year.”
