Veteran defensive lineman Billy Price has retired from the NFL after a medical emergency.
Price, a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, revealed he suffered complications from a blood clot.
Price took to Instagram to share that he was forced to retire from the NFL due to the medications he is taking.
“In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away,” he wrote.
“On April 24th I had emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a clot that was entering both of my lungs.
“For a healthy 29-year-old young man, an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no further medical explanation is frightening.
“I am truly grateful to be alive today.
“Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of internal bleeding while on blood thinners creates a tremendous risk.”
Price was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 21st overall pick out of Ohio State.
He played for the Bengals from 2018 to 2020 before being traded to the New York Giants in 2021.

Price spent a year with the Giants and then signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency in 2022.
He has not played in an NFL regular season game since his time with the Cardinals.
However, Price bounced between practice squads, spending the 2023 season with the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.
He was not signed by any team at the time of his medical retirement.
Fans were quick to share their support for the striker in their Instagram comments.
“I love you, man. I’m glad you’re okay,” said one fan.
“I’m glad God is protecting you. Happy that you were able to live your career at OSU and in professional football,” said another fan.
“I’m so glad you’re still here today for your beautiful wife and son!!” a third fan said.
“Congratulations on an amazing career, but we’re glad you’re safe!” a fourth fan said.
“Prayers for the next chapter together and healthier!” a fifth fan said.
Price has a wife and a son with whom he will spend more time now in his retirement.
