The Kansas City Chiefs have officially re-signed defensive end Malik Herring.

The defending Super Bowl champions made proposals for exclusive rights to the former Georgia standout in March.

The status, which could only be used for players with less than two years of experience in the league, meant he could not negotiate with any other NFL team in free agency.

However, the official daily trade report did not mention the defensive lineman’s return until Thursday, May 30.

Herring, 26, signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

But he had to wait to make his debut until 2022 because of a torn ACL he suffered late in his college football career.

The Georgia native played 163 defensive snaps during the 2023 regular season, recording 10 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

He recorded another four tackles in 50 defensive snaps in four postseason games for Kansas City, which went on to win Super Bowl LVIII.

Herring can be seen hugging his crying mother in touching scenes during the victory celebrations.

The Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-20 at Allegiant Stadium in February to defend the championship.

Among them are wide receiver Marquise Brown and quarterback Carson Wentz.

The Chiefs also drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, who set a new combined 40-yard dash scouting record in 4.21 seconds earlier this year.

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh appears to be aware of how difficult it will be to stop Kansas City again next season.

Harbaugh recently joked that he would love to see Travis Kelce marry Taylor Swift and retire from the football field to focus on family life so the Chiefs have one less weapon to rely on.

“I hope they get married,” he said US Weekly.

“I hope they have a bunch of kids.

“Heck, maybe he’ll be ready to retire here soon to pursue this family aspect of his life.

“I would encourage that.”

Harbaugh added that he is “rooting” for Taylor and Travis and that their romance is “the coolest thing ever.”

The Chiefs beat the Ravens in the AFC Championship game last season.
