HOUSTON Texans star Tank Dell has spoken out about a mass shooting in Florida that sent him to the hospital.
Dell, a sophomore, suffered a minor gunshot wound in a nightclub shooting in Florida on April 27.
“For me it was just the wrong place, the wrong time,” Dell said in the A million dollars at stake podcast while sitting next to Texans quarterback CJ Stroud.
“I went back to see my mother. I wasn’t even planning on going back and going to the pool party or anything like that.
“But my boys saw I was home and looked for me.
“They told me there would be security, people being checked at the door, things like that.”
Caught in the crossfire, Dell was among 10 injured that night at Cabana Live.
Following the incident, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office named 16-year-old Christopher Bouie as the shooter.
According to arrest documents, there initially was a fight outside the club.
Not involved in the fight, Bouie then allegedly “turned around and pulled out a black and silver handgun (9mm) and began shooting into a crowd of people.”

The incident was captured on the club’s security cameras and the video showed Dell running for cover.
None of the injuries sustained that night were fatal.
Dell said in his new interview that he knew a lot of people at the club and explained how quickly things went downhill.
“It just went south out of nowhere,” he said.
“And I thought I had removed myself from the situation.
“When you see in the video I found, I thought I had moved away from the situation, the fight where they were fighting, but I put myself in the middle of two people.”
Stroud went on to say that he found out the next day, shortly after leaving a Philadelphia 76ers game in Pennsylvania.
He explained that he was told by a public relations representative for the Texans that after seeing that Dell had been shot, he dropped his phone and “started crying.”
“When you hear that, you’re thinking the worst,” he recalled, adding that he immediately began praying for his teammate.
Stroud called the experience “eye-opening.”
“It was a good moment to realize that I can’t go home and do the same things I used to do,” he said, noting that he would normally go to clubs and parties.
“It’s a blessing to have a brother like that,” Stroud added.
“And now I know he’s going to tell his story, and I feel like God put his toughest soldiers in his toughest battles so that we can be better equipped for what we’re going to go through, but more importantly, for what other people need to do . to hear.”

Fortunately, Dell made a quick recovery and was able to return to OTAs just three weeks later.
“I’m happy to have Tank back,” coach DeMeco Ryans said upon Dell’s return.
“He went through a very tragic situation.
“We are very happy that he is here, happy that he is back able to do what he loves, which is playing football.

“Everyone is excited to see Tank.”
A third-round draft pick out of Houston in 2023, Dell was one of the NFL’s breakout stars last season.
In the 11 games before suffering a fractured fibula, Dell totaled 709 yards and seven touchdowns.
